You realise a well-designed catalogue will have the strongest impact of all your marketing activities – but you’re not convinced you have the people or the expertise to get it done on time and on budget?
The production of your catalogue is one of the most complex projects your business will produce. It involves strategy, design, copy, data, photography, approvals, print, and logistics – often all running to time-critical commercial deadlines.
Without expert project management, your catalogue’s time-line can slip, causing significant problems and wasted opportunities.
At TA Design, we believe creative project management is not a ‘nice to have’. It’s the foundation that allows everything else to succeed. Our role is to remove complexity, control risk, and deliver catalogues that work hard for your business – on time, on budget and without stress.
If you’re responsible for delivering a catalogue inside a busy organisation, we share how our approach protects you, your stakeholders, and your results.
Why Catalogue Projects Can Fail without Dedicated Project Management
Many Potential Pain Points
Catalogue production places unique pressures on businesses. Multiple contributors, high page counts, fixed deadlines and significant print costs create an environment where small issues can quickly become expensive problems.
Without specialist creative project management, businesses commonly face:
- Missed deadlines that impact sales cycles or campaigns.
- Budget overruns caused by late changes or rework.
- Inconsistent design or messaging across pages.
- Approval bottlenecks that stall progress.
- Print errors that are costly – or impossible – to fix.
Bottom Line Consequences
These issues matter because catalogues are rarely optional. They support revenue, customer relationships and brand credibility. When a catalogue slips, the impact is felt far beyond the marketing team.
Pro-Active Prevention of Problems
TA Design focuses on preventing these problems. With decades of catalogue experience across B2C and B2B sectors, we understand where projects typically go wrong – and how to keep them on track. Our structured, client-focused project management ensures your catalogue delivers commercially, not just creatively.

The Business Benefits of Expert Catalogue Project Management
You’ll enjoy all the immediate benefits of professional creative production management of course, more of which below – but perhaps the most significant benefit you receive is the change in your mindset.
Once you realise that producing a catalogue needn’t take up precious headspace you could be using for your core job – your attitude to catalogues changes and becomes more objective.
Freed from the myriad details and decisions the process inevitably involves, you judge your catalogues on the returns they bring you – in terms of brand profile, brand positioning, higher impact on recipients, leading to more involvement of prospects and customers, and more advocates for your brand on social media – not to mention increases in AoV and Lifetime values.
Real Results You Can Expect
And during the catalogue production process, effective design project management delivers outcomes that go far beyond organisation.
- Catalogues delivered on time, even to tight deadlines.
- Predictable costs with fewer last-minute surprises.
- Consistent quality across hundreds of pages.
- Reduced internal workload and pressure.
How It Improves Your Business
By removing uncertainty and firefighting, your teams can focus on strategy, sales, and growth instead of chasing files or approvals.
Time and Cost Savings
- Fewer revision cycles.
- Reduced rework.
- Lower risk of print errors.
- More efficient use of internal resources.
Competitive Advantage
A well-managed catalogue launches confidently, supports campaigns effectively, and reinforces your brand’s professionalism – giving you an edge in competitive and crowded markets.
Our Catalogue Project Management Process
You can choose our complete marketing project management service, choose from the palette of what we offer, or decide to do it yourself.
1. Enquiry and Discovery
We start by understanding your business, not just your catalogue. We discuss your timelines, internal constraints, and objectives. This can take a week, or sometimes just a single Teams meeting.
At this stage, we also check whether you have a photographer you use and all the product and lifestyle imagery you need. If not, we can recommend photographers and utilise our inhouse professional AI imagery specialists for you.
2. Creative Brief and Project Planning
We then develop a clear and detailed project plan with a schedule at its heart. The plan also covers what items we need from you, and when.
3. Concept Development
Next, our creative team will work on some designs for key pages, to show you how we would be realising your vision
We present clear design concepts, with time allowed for us both to discuss them and for you to give us your feedback and then approval.
4. Copywriting and Content Management
We manage content gathering, writing, editing and approvals—ensuring accuracy, consistency and version control.
We discuss your brand positioning, then using our expertise to craft involving and effective brand positioning copy in the appropriate tone of voice for your brand. We also write product copy, from fashion to highly technical – although more usually it’s shortening website product copy for use in the catalogue.
5. Design Production
We use the brand, imagery and copy reference you give us to create the complete catalogue, using the approved design concepts as the design guide.
This means there are no surprises when you see the complete set of catalogue design V1s as PDFs, maintaining full quality control and facilitating your feedback.
6. Print Management
We have a bank of proven printers our clients regularly use. We can manage print specification, print estimates, supplier coordination, and online pre-press checks as a second pair of eyes for you, so it’s extremely difficult for any errors to creep in.
7. Delivery and Review
We coordinate delivery to you or to a mail house for addressing and posting.
We also and conduct a post-project review to refine future catalogue cycles to ensure an even smoother and faster next edition.
Case Studies
1: Monthly Fashion Catalogue
Challenge: The clients had decided on a monthly catalogue mailing to customers showing new edits, but their inhouse team was very busy and had little experience in print.
Solution: We swiftly put together a fast-paced schedule for the first catalogue, focusing on the latest dates that we needed various elements from the clients in order for us to meet their print deadline.
On review we proposed the monthly schedules to over lap intelligently, so that both us and the clients had time to work on different aspects of two catalogues concurrently.
Result: This relieved the rush and inhouse panic, and brought production order to chaos.
2: Monthly Charity Catalogue
Challenge: These clients also had a cycle of monthly catalogues. Their challenge was making endless changes to the page contents, right up to (and past) the ‘to printer’ deadline.
Solution: After a while, we managed to instil some date discipline into their thinking, by use of a schedule which clearly showed the impact on the mailing date of late changes.
Result: The adherence to schedule dates of one catalogue made the next catalogue a smoother process and so the clients embarked on a virtuous cycle of fewer changes and reduced costs.
3: Urgent 200-page B2B Catalogue
Challenge: This client gave us a clear and detailed brief, but was caught out by unexpected supply issues, so they didn’t know what products could be in the catalogue. However, the deadline was set in stone due to a key annual trade show.
Solution: After some thought, we recommended a threefold approach. 1: That we work on the product sections that had least uncertainty. 2: That we revise the schedule on a daily basis as the known facts changed. 3: That we maximise our creative capacity for the last two weeks of the project.
Result: Despite a six-week delay in a 12-week schedule, of a significant proportion of the products, we managed to achieve the ‘to printer’ deadline date.
Key Questions
Q1: When do I need creative project management services?
A: It’s always desirable, but if your catalogue involves multiple stakeholders, high page counts, print deadlines, or internal pressure on time and resources, specialist project management is essential. It becomes critical when mistakes would be costly or deadlines cannot move.
Q2: How does marketing project management save money?
A: By identifying the critical path, anticipating project bottlenecks and problems, preventing rework, reducing revision cycles and catching errors before print. The cost of professional project management is far lower than the cost of fixing mistakes late in production.
Q3: Can you manage our internal team too?
A: Yes. We regularly coordinate with marketing, product, legal and senior stakeholders. We fit painlessly into your structure, manage inputs and approvals, while always reducing the burden on your hard-pressed internal team.
Q4: What marketing project management tools do you use?
A: We use industry-standard design project management, proofing and version-control tools, tailored to the scale and complexity of your catalogue. The tools matter – but how they are used matters more. Our focus is clarity, transparency and communication.
