When our client took the company over, the Spirit of the Andes fashion brand had lost its way, big-time.

A Mountainous Challenge

Apart from the logo, there was nothing that could be salvaged, so it meant working closely with our client to build a new Brand from scratch.

There are two groupings of factors that all need to be successfully developed in order to create successful catalogue.

The first group to get right is the ‘components for assembly’ – the products, the models, the locations, the branding, Tone of Voice, etc..

The second group is the ‘catalogue creative skills’ – the proposition, guarantee, USP, cross sells, visual hierarchy, spread design, eye flow, etc..

There may be some business sectors where these considerations are not so sensitive or don’t need to be so finely judged, but fashion is the highly-strung horse in the race.

Fashioning a Beautiful Catalogue

We created a complete set of design and copy concepts for the new catalogue. Key points from this include:

  • A cost-effective page size – A5 as opposed to 220mm square.
  • Utilising all the design and copywriting catalogue techniques.
  • Giving a more active, somewhat younger and gently contemporary feel to the models and their poses.
  • Using typography, colour and negative space to give a gentler feel, while still being upmarket.

 In order to create what should always have been their key USP, we also strongly recommended that Andean style be seen in many of the products, although we realised that would take time.

A new Brand positioning

Honing the USPs, the Tone of Voice, as well as the attitude to suppliers. Emphasising natural materials, artisan-made short run items, respect for the environment = Authenticity.

The Andean artisanal heritage now gently and respectfully suffuses the catalogue, so it effortlessly passes the ‘cover the logo’ test.
